Postitivity as a pratical tool
People often ask me, how do you manage all your businesses, and how do you handle all the responsibility and stress?
A couple of weeks ago, I said (with pain in my heart) goodbye to my role as lecturer at the university of Rotterdam. At my farewell party
Roger Reichrath said, "It is challenging to make Cor angry or find him negative" (Thank you for organizing John van der Stelt and Inge Kamps).
It's true; I am a true optimist. Negativity, nagging, doom thinking and all of that, I have little use for it because I repeatedly notice that it doesn't help me any further! Negativity only makes business or life in general heavier.
I find positive thinking far from floaty or unrealistic but simply very practical.
Life is just the way it is. No matter how beautifully we try to paint the picture, we all have our problems. Everyone gets to deal with wonderful and fucked-up moments.
In the end, the only thing that matters is: how you deal with those moments. Do you linger endlessly, or do you keep going? Do you think about problems, obstacles and excuses? Or in opportunities, possibilities and learning moments? Do you see the glass as half empty or half full? That's where the big difference lies in our thinking.
That doesn't mean you can never be negative; you can be irritated or sad, and that is healthy to me. However, you can build a tent in camp negativity and stay there, or move on!
In the end, you can't always choose what comes your way, but you can choose how you deal with it. Whatever your problem or situation, a positive view of things always wins over the alternative!
As an executive coach to several international executive officers, you can contact me with your executive challenges. We will find the balance together!
